Police: Suspect Throws Teen Girl To The Ground, Runs Off With Her Phone In Brooklyn
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police in Brooklyn are looking for a suspect who they said was seen on surveillance video tackling a teenage girl and then running off with her iPhone.
It happened just after 3 p.m. Monday in Sheepshead Bay.
Police said the suspect approached the 16-year-old girl from behind as she was walking near Batchelder Avenue and Avenue V, throwing her to the ground. He then grabbed her phone and fled, police said.
In surveillance video, you can see the girl struggling with her attacker.
"For me, it's terrible. It's the first time for me to hear something like this," said neighbor Hong Yu.
"Of course it scares me, because God forbid it could have been my daughter," said neighbor Oddie Haughland.
Police say the girl wasn't injured.
One neighbor told CBS2's Marc Liverman he's lived there for 50 years and never heard of something like this on his block.
Nobody even heard the attack happen.
"Yeah, it's very quiet here. It's all, like, you know, elders. There's no so much young people around here. Maybe up the block, that's it," Haughland said.
Police say the suspect is 5'8"-5'10" and between 16-20 years old.
Police have tried to track the victim's phone, but it was switched off.
