Brooklyn Pedestrian Bridge Closed For Being Too Bouncy

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The city has shut down a pedestrian bridge in Brooklyn after it was deemed too bouncy.

The Squibb Park Bridge connecting Brooklyn Heights to Brooklyn Bridge Park will be closed until spring.

The bridge opened in the spring of 2013 and was intended to bounce gently. Overtime, however, the bouncing has become more pronounced.

The bridge was closed for repairs in August. Park officials announced Friday that the bridge would remain closed while engineers study the problem, the New York Times reported.

The 450-foot bridge cost $5 million and was a long-awaited addition to Brooklyn Heights.

Brooklyn Bridge Park Corporation's president said park officials "need to fully understand the bridge.''
