Off-Duty NYPD Officer Killed In Brooklyn Motorcycle Accident

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An off-duty NYPD officer has been killed in a motorcycle crash in Brooklyn.

The accident occurred on Rockaway Parkway between Avenue J and Flatlands Avenue around 7 p.m. Monday.

The 35-year-old officer was riding a Ducati motorcycle southbound when a 2015 Kia Sorrento made a U-turn in front of him from the northbound lanes, causing the bike to crash into the SUV's passenger side front door, police said.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene and found the officer lying in the roadway unconscious and unresponsive. He was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where he died.

Police have not released the officer's name.

The 28-year-old SUV driver was treated for neck and back pain.

Two 3-year-old boys, who were passengers in the SUV, were not hurt, police said.

No arrests have been made.

The investigation continues.
