Husband Accused Of Killing, Dismembering Wife In Brooklyn
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man has been charged with killing a his wife and dismembering her body in Flatbush, Brooklyn.
The remains of the woman – Diana Rodriguez-Martin, 43 – have not been found.
Police reported Rodriguez-Martin missing this past Monday. She was reported missing by her family after she missed a doctor's appointment on Feb 8, police sources said.
Police asked Rodriguez-Martin's husband, Phillip Martin, about her whereabouts, and he told them that his wife packed a bag, took the family dog and left sometime around Jan. 16, sources said. He said he had not heard from her since, sources said.
A source told CBS2 that investigators found Martin's answers inconsistent and suspicious.
Police later learned that Martin was using his missing wife's credit cards in the weeks since her disappearance, sources alleged.
Martin was arrested on Thursday and questioned, and he allegedly admitted to police that he had struck his wife in the throat, killing her, sources said.
Days later, he allegedly dismembered Rodriguez-Martin's body with a hammer and handsaw and threw the remains in a dumpster on Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn, sources alleged.
Martin, 42, was charged Friday with murder and concealment of a corpse.
The couple has a long history of domestic related incidents involving police dating back to 2008, sources said. Martin had two prior arrests for assaulting his wife in 2013 and 2016, sources said.
The investigation continued late Friday.
