Brooklyn Man Sentenced To 25 Years To Life For Fatal 2013 Shooting
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Brooklyn man has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for fatally shooting a man following a dispute, the Brooklyn district attorney announced Wednesday.
Testimony during the trial against 28-year-old Daneel Edwards, of East Flatbush, alleged he and the victim, 42-year-old Martin Williams, got into an argument on April 9, 2013 in a bodega after Edwards made disparaging remarks about Williams to his girlfriend.
Further testimony alleged the girlfriend called her brother and told him to bring a gun, which Edwards called "Loretta," that was hidden inside a bag in a baby crib at their apartment down to the lobby.
Edwards then unleashed a barrage of gunfire directed at Williams' van, and continued to shoot as Williams tried to flee, the district attorney's office said. Williams, a father of four, died of a gunshot wound to the heart.
Police recovered the firearm in the crib.
According to District Attorney Kenneth Thompson, Edwards was convicted by a jury of second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison and 15 years concurrently for the weapons charge.
