Brooklyn Family Trying To Find Missing Autistic Man

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Brooklyn family is trying to find their 20-year-old son who they say has been missing for more than a week.

Brian Gewirtz was last seen leaving his home on Coleman Street in Marine Park on Feb. 17. His family says Gewirtz is autistic and diabetic and needs medication.

He's described as being 5'4" and 150 pounds with dark brown hair, brown eyes, a beard and mustache. He was last seen wearing a maroon and gray striped sweater, jeans, tan work boots and a black jacket with a hood.

His family says he may be disoriented, lethargic or shy. If found, they say to approach him with a normal tone of voice and say his name several times until he responds.

A Facebook page called "Find Brian Gewirtz" has been set up to help in the search. Gewirtz has also been added to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children's website.

If you've seen Gewirtz or have any information, call police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
