Police: Mother, 8-Year-Old Son Brutally Attacked In Brooklyn Apartment Elevator
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork)-- At the Van Dyke Houses in Brooklyn, an elevator door closed and a beating began.
"He began to punch with a closed fist and I began to fight him off as best I can," victim Rashea Glenn told CBS2's Steve Langford.
Glenn is just out of the hospital after being punched about a dozen times Tuesday night in Brownsville. Her 8-year-old son, Roman, was with her in the cramped elevator during the attack.
"Roman has a concussion, he has a black eye," she said.
Glenn herself has bleeding on the brain, suffered at the hands of 30-year-old William Battle, police said. Another woman was also punched on the way up.
"The look in his eyes was something I've never seen before," she said.
Two hours after the attack, police picked up the suspect at a deli located about six blocks away.
The suspect was later arraigned and released on his own recognizance, something the young victim's grandmother is not happy about.
"He had a concussion, who gives an 8-year-old boy a concussion?" she said.
The boy's mother said she believes the suspect is sick.
"Am I mad? Of course. Am I angry? Hell ya. Do I hate him? No," she said.
Charges against the suspect include misdemeanor assault, menacing and endangering the welfare of a child.
