Brooklyn Building Residents Protest Over Lack Of Gas, Electricity
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Residents of an apartment building in Brownsville, Brooklyn, marched to the building owner's office in protest Thursday, after going with no gas and electricity for a week.
But a representative for building owner Mehfar Menocher said the tenants were brought in by a management company that never gave them leases.
As 1010 WINS' Al Jones reported, it has been a tough week for the residents.
"We've been living in filth. We have no lights. We have no gas," one resident said.
The utilities are supposed to be included in the residents' monthly rent. They marched down the street to the office of building owner, demanding that the services be restored.
But Menocher's secretary said the building is leased to a management company.
"They're the landlord. They brought the tenants in. They did not give these tenants a lease. They have no lease," the secretary said.
Thus, the tenants were stuck in the middle with no power or gas, and no recourse.
