Brooklyn Borough President: Include Female Voice In State Budget Negotiations
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- State budget negotiations have traditionally included three men in a room. It expanded to four in recent years, as the leader of the Senate independent Democratic conference has been included.
Now Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams is calling for an invitation for the first woman, Senate Minority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins.
"Many women issues are going to be discussed," Adams told WCBS 880's Jim Smith. "It's time to finally make history and have a woman at the table."
He said not having a female voice in on the issues is an insult to the women of the state.
"You deal with issues around health care, education," Adams said. "There's issues that are going to be discussed around policy in sexual assault matters."
And to be fair, Adams said the Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb, R-Canandaigua, should also be involved in budget talks.
