Police Investigate String Of Car Break-Ins In Borough Park

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Residents are being urged not to leave valuables in their vehicles after nearly a dozen cars were broken into Wednesday in Brooklyn.

Eleven vehicles were targeted on 20th and 21st avenues in Borough Park, 1010 WINS' Jon Leiberman reported.

NYPD Captain Kenneth Quick said items were stolen from some of the vehicles.

"I encourage everyone to not leave loose change or valuable items in your vehicles when you park. Leave nothing visible," Assemblyman Dov Hikind said. "Don't give these criminals an incentive to do harm."

One neighbor said the thieves could be from anywhere.

"It's pretty safe, you know, but they go all over, it doesn't matter the neighborhood," she said.

Quick also recommended residents park their cars in well-lit areas.

So far, no arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing.
