Four People Shot Outside Brooklyn Sports Bar

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Four people were shot early Monday morning outside a Brooklyn sports bar.

It happened around 2:15 a.m. in front of the D Avenue bar on Flatbush Avenue near Hawthorne Street in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens.

Police say a  fight between two groups was underway when someone fired a gun. Manager Timothy Haynes says someone also hit a bouncer in the head with a sharp object when he came outside to help.

"Because he's part of the club, anything he sees there, he's going to calm it down, but you know how it is," said Haynes, who added that bouncer is "fine."

Surveillance video captured the violence just after closing time, CBS2's Diane Macedo reported. As a crowd poured out of the bar, a gunman outside opened fire.

The shooting victims were taken to Kings County Hospital. Police said all the victims are expected to survive.

No arrests had been made as of noon Monday.

The incident adds to a quickly growing list of shootings in the city. Last week alone, the NYPD recorded 44 shootings with 53 victims -- roughly double the number of incidents reported at the same time last year.

The spike in shootings has many calling for a return to stop-and-frisk interactions, which have dropped dramatically under Mayor Bill de Blasio.

"We've been here for three years, (and) no incidents," a man who works at D Avenue but did not want to identified told Macedo. "And then stop-and-frisk has been repealed, so guys are walking around with guns again."

The employee said police were actually in front of the bar just 30 minutes before the shooting.

"Everything was fine again," he said. "People just filing out of the place. And then the incidents occur."

The shooting also comes exactly a week after the NYPD launched its 'Summer All Out" program a month early due to the recent spike in shootings. The program adds more than 300 extra patrol officers to the city's highest crime areas.

Last year, police said the number of shooting victims dropped 26 percent in targeted areas during "Summer All Out," and they have high hopes for the program this year as well.
