Innocent Bystander Shot To Death In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A woman was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon when she was caught in the crossfire between two groups arguing in the Bronx, police said.

The shooting happened around 1 p.m. on 154th Street between Elton and Melrose avenues.

Police said two groups of men were arguing in the middle of the street when gunshots rang out.

The 45-year-old bystander was shot in the chest, she was later identified as Maribel Cavero-Reyes.

"I heard something like a shot," one witness told CBS2's Valerie Castro. "I go to her, I saw her on the floor, called 911 and they come and they saw it was a shot."

Cavero-Reyes was pronounced dead at Lincoln Hospital.

Police have not named any suspects and no one is in custody.
