Authorities Bust Bronx-To-Long Island Heroin Ring
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Authorities have busted a heroin ring that spanned from the Bronx to Suffolk County on Long Island.
Greedy, vicious drug dealers: that is how Suffolk County District Attorney Tom Spota described the Rose brothers, of Deer Park, who were the alleged ringleaders in the $1.5 million a year heroin ring, WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported.
Spota said the brothers, Winston and Uriel, bought the drugs from 28-year-old Robert Maldonado, of the Bronx, and on a daily basis would sell about 500 bags.
"The Rose brothers masqueraded as businessmen, hiding behind what we call an events company," said the district attorney. "This business, which really wasn't a business at all, existed solely for the purpose of laundering drug money."
Spota said they even had a bouncy house to try to fool investigators.
The Rose brothers were being held on $4 to $6 million bond. Their attorney said they ran a legitimate business and are not drug dealers.
All together, 14 men and women were charged in the heroin bust. Many of the suspects reside in communities across Long Island, including Deer Park, Coram, Rocky Point, Northport, Bay Shore and East Islip.
