NYPD: Man Rapes Woman On Rooftop Of Bronx Building

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are on the hunt for a man who they said raped and robbed a woman on a rooftop in the Bronx.

The suspect approached a 21-year-old woman on Banyer Place in Soundview around 1 a.m. Monday and told her he had a knife, police said.

He then forced the woman into the rooftop landing of a building and raped her, police said.

He took the victim's purse and phone before riding off on his scooter, police said.

The woman was treated at Jacobi Hospital.

As CBS2's Diane Macedo reported, the attack has many neighbors concerned.

"You wouldn't think of it because we live right around the corner from the precinct," said nearby resident Erica D.

"It happens almost everywhere, they don't care if their image is caught," said retired police officer Tom Robles. "He'll be apprehended from the footage, probably have previous attacks or a previous record, so he'll be apprehended."

The suspect is described by police as a black man, approximately 6' tall, weighing 140 pounds with a medium complexion, black hair in braids, brown eyes and a rash on the right side of his face.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).  The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
