Bronx Principal Runs 100 Miles On School's Track

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A high school principal ran 100 miles in a fundraising effort for his school in the Bronx.

As WCBS 880's Jim Smith reported, it wasn't Forrest Gump, it was the principal of Cardinal Spellman High School.

"He decided to run 100 miles continuously on the school track," explained the school's vice principal, Jennifer Rivera.

Rivera said principal Daniel O'Keefe ran almost non-stop for 24 hours.

"It took him 403.25 laps to complete 100 miles on the school track," she said.

O'Keefe is an accomplished ultra marathoner, so the distance wasn't new to him.

This time, however, it was a fundraiser for school athletics and activities. One anonymous donor pitched in $100,000, Smith reported.
