Bronx Hospital Goes High-Tech With 'Robotic Pharmacy'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – A high-tech tool is giving one New York hospital an extra boost in patient safety.

A robotic system at Saint Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx known as "RIVA" prepares medications for syringes and IV medication.

Drugs are barcoded and tracked, helping cut down on potential mistakes.

"For the patient, it assures them that the drug was ordered by the physician is the one they're receiving," Ruth Cassidy said.

Saint Barnabas is the first hospital in the city to use the system.
