1 Dead, Several Hurt In Multicar Crash In Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A car crash in the Bronx on Sunday morning left one man dead and several other people hurt.

The accident occurred around 4:40 a.m. at Marble Hill Avenue and West 228th Street in the Marble Hill section.

According to police, the driver of a 2015 Volkswagen sedan heading west on Marble Hill Avenue tried to drive between two cars at the intersection -- a Chrysler sedan that was stopped at a red light and a Nissan sedan that was parked at the corner. Those cars then struck an eastbound Ford sedan that was stopped at the light, police said.

The driver of the Volkswagen -- William Hay, 54, of the Bronx -- was pronounced dead at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. Police believe he was speeding, CBS2 reported.

Seven other people were treated for minor injuries, police said.
