2-Year-Old Boy Released From Hospital After Falling Out Bronx Window

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A 2-year-old boy who fell out of a third floor window is now back home recovering.

Damir Holmes-Carter leaned on a window screen Wednesday and tumbled out of the window of his family's home in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx.

"There's a screen that was just not sturdy enough to be in the window," Raelene Holmes-Andrews, the child's aunt, said. "So his mother stepped out to go to the bathroom and came back heard a loud thud in backyard and he was just laying there."

His family said he was in the hospital for a couple of days for observation.

Ground floor and second floor apartments in the building have window guards, but the third floor did not, despite a law requiring them in homes where children under 11 reside.
