Brighton Beach School Aide Charged With Assaulting Autistic Student

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- An aide at a Brooklyn school has been charged with assaulting an autistic student in the school cafeteria.

The Daily News reports 58-year-old Milton Parker is accused of punching 11-year-old Anatoly Veltman on Aug. 7 after the boy spilled water.

According to court papers, Parker ordered Anatoly to clean up the spill and then punched the boy in the face when he apparently did not understand.

Police reviewed a video of the incident at Public School 225 in Brighton Beach. They arrested Parker on charges including assault and endangering the welfare of a minor.

Parker was arraigned Aug. 8 and is due back in court on Tuesday, Aug. 26.

The city Department of Education says Parker has been suspended without pay.

Information on his attorney was not immediately available.

As CBS 2's John Slattery reported in 2010, a Westchester teacher was accused of assaulting a student and throwing him up against a brick wall.

He was charged of endangering the welfare of a child as well as harassment.
