Queens School Plants Memorial Garden In Honor Of Fallen NYPD Detective Brian Moore

NEW YORK (CBSNEwYork) -- A memorial garden for fallen NYPD Detective Brian Moore is being planted Tuesday at St. Gregory the Great Catholic School in Bellerose, Queens.

Moore was shot to death in the line of duty in Queens Village last month.

Principal Lynn Alaimo said Moore had worked off-duty security at the church fair.

"We just felt we wanted to do something to honor his memory, to give back to the 105th Precinct, as well as honor the officer who had fallen in the line of duty," Alaimo told 1010 WINS.

Alaimo said the school wanted to do something that would keep Moore's memory alive.

"That's why we chose a garden because it's something that continues to live and grow," Alaimo said.

Home Depot is providing the tools, materials and expertise to build the garden.

A dedication ceremony along with the renaming of a street in honor of Moore will be held later this month.
