Yankees' Gardner Hopes To Return Friday Against Rays

TAMPA, Fla. (CBSNewYork/AP) — Yankees left fielder Brett Gardner had an MRI on Thursday that confirmed he has a bone bruise in his right wrist.

Gardner was hit by a pitch Monday and left the game mid-way through New York's win over Baltimore. He missed the next two games with soreness in the wrist, but hopes to play Friday at Tampa Bay.

"I'm definitely happy that it feels the way it does," Gardner said on Wednesday, according to MLB.com. "I'm headed in the right direction."

On Thursday, Yankees manager Joe Girardi said it's "hard to predict" when Gardner will be ready, though he's confident the outfielder won't need a stint on the disabled list.

"Our hope is that we'll get him (back on Friday)," Girardi told WFAN's Mike Francesa. "I'm not so sure. ... I don't think it's a DL, but could it be another day? Sure, it could. We'll just have to wait and see."
