Investigators Making Progress In Probe Of Brentwood Killings, Police Chief Says

BRENTWOOD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- The investigation into a string of teenage murders continued in Brentwood, Long Island Tuesday, and police said progress is being made.

As WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs reported, Suffolk County police Commissioner Timothy Sini said investigators are making progress as they probe the deaths of four teenagers in Brentwood.

Gang violence is suspected, although it is not clear if the murders are in any way connected.

"So we're out there every day, working the case, doing a variety of different things in terms of putting pressure on gangs in the community," Sini said.

Sini said the department has stopped searching for more victims. But he said efforts will resume, with a goal "to decimate gangs in this area."

The deaths have left the community stricken with fear.

First, Kayla Cuevas and her best friend Nisa Mickens were beaten to death and their bodies were found separately.
