Bratton: Police-Fired Shots Hit Record Low In 2015
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police Commissioner Bill Bratton couldn't resist crowing Tuesday about a new record low number of shots fired by NYPD officers.
"Within a couple of days, we'll be announcing the number of times New York City police officers have fired their weapons in 2015 was also a record-low year," Bratton told WCBS 880.
Bratton said the city's 35,000 cops fired their guns 65 times. "That's a phenomenal record," he said.
The previous record low was 79 in 2014.
The commissioner added that a third of those police-fired rounds were to confront armed assailants.
Bratton also said overall crime is down 75 percent since the early 1990s and continues to decline.
