WHEATLEY HEIGHTS (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island man who admitted causing a deadly crash in 2014 but later had his sentence vacated was back in court Friday.

Brandon Charles pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter in a crash that killed 19-year-old Carla Flores in Wheatley Heights.

He was convicted and sentenced to spend three to nine years behind bars. However, that sentence was vacated because he was promised he would be a part of a substance abuse program in prison but he never received the help he needed, WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported.

Now, Charles is back in court facing manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, reckless driving and DWI charges.

The victim's sister said the legal process has left her without any closure.

"We just want justice, that's all we want. And we want to put this behind us, and be done and over with with everything," she told Hall.

She said she lost her best friend when her sister was killed.

"She was such a good girl. She was so sweet. She never got into trouble," she said choking back tears.
