2-Year-Old Boy Survives 3-Story Fall In Queens
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – A 2-year-old boy suffered minor injuries when he fell three stories from a home Saturday in Queens.
Police said the child's family lives on the fourth floor of the building on 49th Street in the Sunnyside neighborhood.
The boy got onto the fire escape and climbed down to the third floor before falling onto two women in the back courtyard below. Witnesses said they were trying to catch the child, and one injured her arm in the process.
"I was in my window with my head outside, and I heard screaming," neighbor Evelyn Kokette told CBS2's Reena Roy.
Police said the boy's mother was home at the time.
Witnesses said they knocked on the family's door, but the building's management had to open it and let her know her son was hurt.
"I was screaming, calling everybody, knocking at the doors," said Kokette.
The child was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
"I saw him with like -- he was sleeping with his eyes closed. But after a while, in about 20 minutes, the police and the ambulance came and gave him the mask, and then he opened his eyes," Kokette said.
Police said no charges are expected.
