Newark Police: 13-Year-Old Boy Shot While Doing Homework In Apartment Bedroom

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A teenage boy in Newark was rushed to the hospital Tuesday night after a bullet came flying through the wall of his family's apartment.

Police said the 13-year-old told them he was sitting at his desk doing homework when he heard a loud boom, but did not immediately realize he had been shot. He later woke his mother and told her he couldn't move his arm, and she saw a bullet hole in his shoulder.

Police discovered a bullet hole in the wall of the apartment. It remains unclear if the bullet was intentionally fired into the home or if it was a stray shot.

So far, no arrests have been made.

The boy was treated at a hospital, but details on his condition have not been released.
