12-Year-Old Boy Turns Down $100 Offer For Pope Central Park Ticket

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Getting a ticket to see Pope Francis at Central Park was no easy feat.

A lottery opened to and was available to New York residents only.

One of those residents, Nicholas Nieto, 12, of New Rochelle, was lucky and won a ticket to get to see Pope Francis' procession through Central Park.

Nieto told CBS2's Lou Young his mother's friend offered him $100 for his ticket, but he turned her down.

When asked why, Nieto said, "I said no to my mom because I knew that this would be like a once in a lifetime experience. He's one of the greatest pope's we've had. I mean this is the first time a pope has come to New York," Nieto said.

Young gently corrected him, reminding him of other papal visitis to New York. he boy that other pope's have visited New York.

When asked if it was worth waiting around all day to try to catch a glimpse of the pope as opposed to buying video games with the money, Nieto said, "Yep."
