Boy, 6, Struck By Hit-And-Run Driver In Borough Park, Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A 6-year-old boy was struck by a hit-and-run driver in Borough Park, Brooklyn on Wednesday.

Police told CBS2 the boy was struck around 4:15 p.m. at 41st Street and Fort Hamilton Parkway.

Surveillance video showed the minivan plowing into the boy and pushing him down the street.

The van stopped after the impact, and the driver got out of the vehicle to inspect the damage before getting back in and driving away, 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck reported.

Nearby residents were baffled.

"You have to go ahead and be responsible for your actions, and you need to come forward and face the consequences," one resident said. "That's part of being a responsible citizen and part of society."

The boy was transported to Maimonides Medical Center, where he is being treated for a hip injury, Schuck reported.

His condition was reported as serious, but stable.
