Body Found In N.J. Waterway Confirmed To Be Missing Fisherman

HIGHLANDS, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The body of a man found last week in a central New Jersey waterway is that of a fisherman who vanished last December, authorities said Monday.

The Asbury Park Press reported that the body of Edward Broderick, 39, was found Friday near the Captain's Cove Marina in Highlands. The identification was made public on Monday.

Broderick, of Sea Bright, had last been heard from on Dec. 14, when he told a friend that his vessel was en route to a clamming facility in Highlands, authorities said.

The friend reported him missing about four hours later, and Broderick's sunken vessel was found and identified outside the marina where he originally intended to end his trip.

Authorities said the investigation into Broderick's death was ongoing Monday, but foul play is not suspected.
