Connecticut Senator Calls For Regulations On Recreational Drone Use
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A trade group has estimated 400,000 drones will be sold this holiday season.
"Drones are literally flying off the shelves," said Connecticut Sen. Richard Blumenthal.
Blumenthal said he would like to see some simple rules for drones, WCBS 880's Peter Haskell reported.
"Fly them no higher than 400 feet; always within sight; away from airports, airplanes, helicopters," the lawmaker said.
There has been an increase in complaints about drones interfering with aircraft or crashing into people.
On Thanksgiving, a man was issued a summons after police said he flew a drone near the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
But despite the uptick, Blumenthal said he does not want to ban the gadgets all together "Because they can be useful commercially and enjoyable recreationally.
The Federal Aviation Commission is considering required registration for drone operators.
