Ex-Long Island Man, Blinded By Cup Of Urine Thrown From Moving Car, Awarded $3.6 Million

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A former Long Island man has been awarded $3.6 million after he was blinded in one eye when two teenagers threw a plastic cup filled with urine at him.

A Riverhead jury last month ordered Brian Sullivan of Farmingville and Robert Harford of Patchogue to pay George Ciminello compensation and punitive damages, Newsday reported Wednesday.

The former Lake Ronkonkoma man was walking home from the movies in July 2005 when Ciminello said a car drove by and a passenger hit him in the face with a urine-filled cup, severing a nerve in his left eye.

Ciminello was 18 at the time of the attack.

Sullivan's attorney declined to comment. Harford's attorney didn't respond to a request for an interview.

They plan to petition for the presiding justice to set aside the award, saying it's excessive.
