Black Bear Breaks Into Vernon, NJ Home, Paws Through Kitchen

VERNON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Police in New Jersey are looking for an unusual suspect after a resident found a black bear pawing through the kitchen of a Vernon home.

Police said the bear broke a window screen and climbed through the window from the deck of the home on Grandview Drive.

As it crawled inside, police said the bear's paw hit the sink faucet, turning on the water which then flooded the kitchen countertop.

Police said the bear then tore through the cabinets, but left out the window once the homeowner started screaming.

By the time police arrived, the bear was gone. Police said New Jersey Fish and Game were notified.

This is not the first time bears have been spotted in the area. In April, some residents said they have seen bears roaming in and around Vernon.
