Billy Joel Reschedules Sept. 30 MSG Show To Undergo Surgery

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The "Piano Man" is taking a break.

Billy Joel, 67, is rescheduling his Sept. 30 show to undergo surgery.

In December 2013, Joel became the first-ever music franchise of The World's Most Famous Arena and has played one show a month since he began his residency at MSG.

This will be the first month he will miss.

"Due to endoscopic sinus surgery, Billy Joel will reschedule his upcoming September 30th concert at Madison Square Garden to November 21, 2016," his spokesperson said in a statement. "The procedure will require him to rest his voice and avoid any strenuous activity. With several weeks of rest, Billy is expected to make a full recovery."

Since January 2014, Joel has played one show per month at The Garden.

His residency has led to 36 sold out shows through December 2016.

He currently holds both of The Garden's concert-related performance records for "Longest Run of Any Artist," and for "Most Number of Performances" by any artist.

All tickets purchased for the Sept. 30 concert will be honored on Nov. 21.
