Big Apple Baseball History Hits The Auction Block At Sotheby's 'New York Sale'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- People were packed into the auction area at Sotheby's to bid and watch people bid on items in the "New York Sale."

Among the items up for auction were 10-foot tall letters spelling out Yankee Stadium that once adorned the old stadium, the 1967 Mets' bullpen cart which is shaped like a ball, and a statue of the Statue of Liberty.

The Statue of Liberty went for $970,000 and the Mets bullpen cart fetched $112,500.

"Very eclectic. It's wonderful," Susan Elefant told 1010 WINS reporter Holli Haerr, "Just wonderful artwork and jewelry, different types, different prices, and the Yankee Stadium letters."

Even the snacks had a New York theme, including the black and white cookies.

The items were also available for bidding on eBay through a new partnership between eBay and Sotheby's.
