Bidding Adieu To Summer With 'Summer Streets' Last Call

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – The city held its "Summer Streets Last Call" Saturday—evidence that it's almost the end of summer.

The event marked the final time this season that Park Avenue and Lafayette Street were closed to cars and trucks.

There were plenty of bikers, joggers and parents with strollers, all of whom had a hard time curbing their enthusiasm.

"It's beautiful. You could go straight down and no hassle with the traffic at all," Manhattan resident Bobby Russo said.

"It's a lot of fun, just seeing people, the energy. Just the ability to walk in the middle of the road," Ramki Muthi said.

"You think of suits and ties when you come over here, and high-end, but you get to see everyone out here in New York," Jahshae Stewart told CBS 2.

As CBS 2 reported, for some people, taking the road was just the easiest way to carry stuff home.
