Prosecutors ID Bergenfield Couple Killed In Apparent Murder-Suicide

BERGENFIELD, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Prosecutors have released the names of the couple who died in an apparent murder-suicide at their New Jersey home.

But they still have not said what may have sparked the incident.

Police responded to the Bergenfield home around 10:20 a.m. Saturday after the couple's 11-year-old son told a neighbor that his parents were not breathing. The neighbor then called 911.

Annette Torres, who would have turned 37 next weekend, was found dead in an upstairs bedroom. Mark Morris, 41, was found in the basement.

Authorities say it appears that Morris killed Torres, then shot himself in the head. They have not released details on how Torres was killed.

Acting county Prosecutor Gurbir Grewal said the deaths were being investigated as a "domestic violence-based murder-suicide." He declined further comment on Sunday.

One next door neighbor said she didn't hear a thing nor did she ever hear of any problems.

"I left my house around 9:30, I didn't know anything about it," she told CBS2's Steve Langford.

The 11-year-old boy was placed in the custody of child welfare officials.
