New Website Helps Long Islanders Prepare For Disasters And More

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A new website aimed to help Long Island residents prepare for disasters has launched as Tropical Storm Hermine threatens to bring possible coastal flooding and high winds to the area.

BeReadyLI.org explains how to prepare for emergencies including a storm like Hermine, a fire or lighting strike. There is also preparedness quiz.

United Way of Long Island, 2-1-1 and PSEG Long Island collaborate on the site.

"Being prepared and planning for major emergencies for our customers takes time, takes effort," PSEG Long Island President David Daly said. "You can spend a lot of time searching various websites trying to understand what agencies are out there, what your resources are, and what BeReadyLI does is basically put it all in one place."

The website translates into multiple languages and provides direct links to PSEG's outage information, weather alerts, transit agencies and more.
