Belmar Mayor Expects Summer Rentals To Offer Big Economic Boost

BELMAR, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A good sign this year down at the Jersey Shore is not a lot of signs when it comes to summer rental vacancies.

Out of about 330 properties in Belmar that rent for the summer, Mayor Matthew Doherty told WCBS 880's Levon Putney "Over 300 already have their certificate of inspection, which means people are going to be moving in."

Doherty said he believes all of the town's summer rentals will be taken this summer, a swift change from previous summers in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy.

And those filled-up summer rentals translate into money flowing through town.

"They go get lunch somewhere. They get a slice of pizza," Doherty said. "You know they buy toys for their children for the beach for that day. That all stays locally."
