Crowds Marvel At Dead Shark Found On Belmar, N.J. Beach

BELMAR, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Crowds gathered on the beach in Belmar, New Jersey Wednesday afternoon, after a dead shark was found washed up on the sand.

The shark was discovered washed ashore on the Eighth Avenue Beach around 3 p.m., according to Belmar police.

The deceased shark was taken away, but not before crowds gathered to marvel at it.

One photo circulated on Twitter showed one woman squatting down close to the shark in what appeared to be an effort to get a close-up photograph.

Someone also apparently placed a flower next to the shark's corpse before it was hauled off.

A News 12 report said the 6-foot shark had some kind of injury near its mouth, and had been seen swimming close to shore earlier in the week.
