Manhunt Underway After Suspect Escapes Custody At Bellevue Hospital

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - The NYPD is searching for a suspect who escaped from custody Monday at Bellevue Hospital.

The Department of Correction said 55-year-old Harry Maldonado slipped out just before 4 a.m. He was last seen wearing a hospital gown, black hat and sunglasses.

The DOC said Maldonado was taken into custody last Thursday on charges of attempted burglary, larceny and parole violation. It's unclear why he was in the hospital.

Investigators have not said whether he was handcuffed or otherwise restrained at the time of his escape.
