Bed Stuy Fire Claims One, FDNY Calls Blaze Suspicious

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- Investigators were calling a deadly Bed Stuy fire suspicious.

One person was killed in the Friday afternoon blaze that broke out in a Jefferson Ave brownstone.

The FDNY said it's unusual that the fire started on the stairs between the second and third floors. The flames then spread up to the fourth floor.

A neighbor told CBS2 that a brother of the man who was killed, tried to save him.

"He tried to help his brother get out, but he couldn't. He said the fire was so intense that he had to let it go. He had to get out," she said.

A firefighter suffered minor injuries, fire marshals are now investigating how the fire started.
