Woman Critically Injured After Rideshare T-Boned In Brooklyn Intersection

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A woman is fighting for her life after her rideshare was T-boned at a Brooklyn intersection.

The impact was so severe, the woman was ejected from the car.

As CBS2's Aundrea Cline-Thomas reports, surveillance video shows the rideshare going westbound on Dekalb Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant, approaching the Bedford intersection when a Dodge Charger slams into the car.

"He sped up… slowed down, like, as soon as he was about to hit the car, he slowed down. And they still collided either way," one witness told CBS2.

It happened around 12:30 a.m. Monday.

The passenger, a 32-year-old woman, was rushed to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition.

"The lady [was] ejected out of the back of the car and was badly hurt," the witness said. "She was on the road."

The 22-year-old driver was also hospitalized.

The force of the collision thrust the car onto the sidewalk. Debris shattered the door of the Gourmet Deli.

"That car was still there with all the airbags. That's the one that the lady ejected from. I don't know how the other car ended up, but it was over there, kind of where the silver minivan is," said area resident Rebecca Ahrens.

Mangled cars showed the devastating aftermath.

The Charger was described by witnesses as being souped up, and has Ghostface from the Scream movies painted on its side panel.

"There's been so much speeding through this intersection at Bedford and Dekalb. I've been here for 11 years now, and it's not getting better," said area resident John Burke.

"This is a drastic scene. As soon as I come outside, I see everything scattered. I see the smoke," the witness added.

Police believe the 22-year-old driver of the Dodge Charger ran a red light, and sources say speed was a factor in the crash.

Authorities have not released the names of anyone involved. So far, no charges have been filed.

At the beginning of the month, a new seatbelt law went into effect for back seat passengers over the age of 16. It's unclear how that would've changed the outcome in this case.
