Plug Pulled On Twitter Account Featuring New Jersey Teens Fighting

GARFIELD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A Twitter account that posted videos of New Jersey teens brawling has been shut down following pressure from police and the Bergen County Prosecutor.

The Twitter handle @BCountyFIghts had been retweeting videos of juveniles assaulting each other from areas in Bergen County, including Garfield, Teaneck and Englewood.

Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli has been monitoring the feed and exploring ways to charge the people involved.

"Whoever is posting it, you are witnessing a crime and by sending it on to a Twitter, you are just facilitating it," Molinelli told WCBS 880's Sean Adams. "You may be violating law in advertising the identity of a victim of a crime, which has some very serious consequences here in New Jersey and, of course, the owner of the Twitter site, find something else to do. Best advice I could give him."

Police are investigating the fights and working to identify the people in the videos.

"It is highly probable that some municipal departments will start charging the people that are appearing in the film with assault," Molinelli said.

Authorities urge people to report fights as they occur.

"These are crimes that are taking place and what concerns me is the number of people just standing around watching it," Molinelli said.
