Bay Shore Man Charged With DWI In Crash That Injured 2

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Bay Shore man has been arrested for allegedly driving drunk and crashing into another car, injuring two people.

According to Suffolk County Police, Ronald Cherry, 44, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu eastbound on Spur Drive North in Brentwood at around 1:50 a.m. Saturday when he collided head-on with a 2008 Toyota Avalon, which was traveling westbound.

The driver of the Toyota, 43-year-old Bernadette Joachim-Baker, of Miami, Fla., was taken to  Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for minor injuries, police said.

Joachim-Baker's passenger, 21-year-old Melissa Joseph, of Brentwood, was rushed to Southside Hospital with serious injuries.

Four others in Joachim-Baker's car were taken to Good Samaritan Medical Center in West Islip for various injuries, police said.

Authorities said Cherry was also treated at Southside Hospital for minor injuries.

Third Squad detectives charged Cherry with driving while intoxicated. He will be held overnight and is expected to appear in First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday.
