Barclays Center CEO: Islanders Ticket Sales 'Far Exceeding Our Expectations'
NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Barclays Center CEO Brett Yormark says ticket sales are booming for the Islanders' inaugural season in Brooklyn.
Appearing Tuesday on WFAN's "Boomer & Carton" show, Yormark said "hundreds and hundreds" of Brooklynites came to the box office -- despite the weather -- to purchase season tickets during Monday's pre-sale, which was open only to residents of the borough.
"We are far exceeding our expectations," he said. "Islanders hockey in Brooklyn is going to be a major, major hit."
Season tickets went on sale to the general public Tuesday morning. The Islanders will begin play in Brooklyn next season after a 43-year run at the antiquated Nassau Coliseum.
Though the Islanders (34-18-1) have slowed down a bit over the past six games, they still have a one-point edge over Pittsburgh for first place in the Metropolitan Division. Yormark said the timing couldn't be better with the Isles in the midst of "one of the best seasons in the history of their franchise."
"Relocating the Nets here was a big moment for us, but now we get to do it again," said Yormark, who also serves as CEO of the Nets and oversaw that team's move from New Jersey in 2012. "And this product, obviously, is terrific."
"It's going to be big-time," he added. "They've got an incredible future."
