Bar Purportedly Marketed Toward Pregnant Women Turns Heads In East Village

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Someone claims to be opening a bar in the East Village that's specifically marketed toward pregnant women.

It's probably just a stunt, but the question is: who is behind it and why?

Passing by the sign in the window on Avenue A at 5th Street, Mike wondered "What kind of bar is it? A juice bar?"

But as WCBS 880's Alex Silverman reported, when you call the phone number on Gestations' Facebook page, you get an answer.

"Our nine-month happy hour because now you're drinking for two."

It would be a waste of precious time to explain why most believe this isn't real.

"I don't think that's funny. If it's a publicity stunt, like what would they be trying to publicize?" asked one New Yorker.

The logo for the app Bartrender is stamped on the signs, so that's one possibility, Silverman reported.

A search turned up no liquor license applications for the address, and a look through the window showed only an empty, dusty room, Silverman reported.
