Judge Reduces Bail For Driver Accused In Long Island Limo Crash That Killed 4 Bridesmaids

SOUTHOLD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Bail has been reduced for the pickup truck driver arrested for alleged DWI following a deadly crash on Long Island.

The Suffolk County district attorney's office said a judge reduced Steven Romeo's bail to $50,000 at a court hearing Thursday.

Romeo is accused of driving drunk and slamming into a limousine carrying a bachelorette party, killing four women.

Authorities said the limo left Vineyard 48 Winery, located on Route 48 in Cutchogue when it attempted to make a U-turn westbound.

Romeo's truck then broadsided the limo.

Three woman died on impact and another woman died a short time later at Taconic Bay Hospital. All were bridesmaids.

Spokesman for the district attorney, Robert Clifford, said Romeo's attorney asked for bail to be reduced from $500,000. Prosecutors did not object.

Romeo has been hospitalized since Saturday. His attorney said Romeo is expected to be hospitalized for the foreseeable future.

Romeo faces a misdemeanor driving while intoxicated charge. He has pleaded not guilty.
