Babysitter Indicted For First-Degree Murder Of 17-Month-Old SI Boy

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A baby sitter has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of a 17-month-old Staten Island boy who was beaten and tortured.

Gloria Fields, 31, was indicted Tuesday. Prosecutors say a grand jury found she killed Anthony Delgado intentionally and in an especially cruel manner. She has pleaded not guilty.

Authorities say the boy's mother left him with a neighbor for the weekend. The neighbor texted the boy's mother Sunday saying he fell. When she brought him to his grandmother, the boy wasn't conscious. Surveillance video showed her carrying his limp body on her shoulder.

An autopsy showed he died of blunt force injuries. Prosecutors say she slammed his head on the ground and sexually abused him. Prosecutors say the boy had bruises everywhere on his body, except for his feet.

Her attorney did not respond to a comment request.
