Suffolk County Man Faces Charges After Breaking Into 11 Businesses, Police Say

BABYLON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Suffolk County man faces charges in connection with nearly a dozen burglaries in the past three months.

Anthony Cole, 29, of Copiague, broke into 11 businesses in Babylon, shattering their front glass windows and stealing cash and sometimes cigarettes, police said.

He was arrested at the Amityville railroad station just after 3 a.m. Saturday and charged with 11 counts of burglary.

"Early this morning, one of the officers from the Amityville PD spotted the suspect and arrested the individual," Suffolk County Police Commissioner Tim Sini said.

The burglarized businesses included laundromats, a gas station and two car washes, 1010 WINS' Samantha Liebman reported.

"Typically burglars want to be quiet, they want to keep it covert, this is certainly brazen," Sini said. "It was -- we call these 'smash and grabs,' and the idea is you're not quiet about it, but you're in and out."

Cole was also charged with attempted burglary for trying to break into Amity Spa & Beauty Salon on Friday, police said.
