NYPD: Woman Tried To Steal Child From Mother In Bensonhurst

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are looking for a woman who allegedly tried to take a child from her mother in Brooklyn on Saturday morning.

The NYPD says the mother was walking with her two children in the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn when the suspect grabbed the woman's 3-year-old child's hand and started walking away, WCBS 880 reported.

The mother grabbed the child back and called the police, but the alleged kidnapper ran off before authorities arrived.

"I told her to give me the baby. I grabbed the baby from her and she was still smiling," the mother told 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria.

The mother, who is a young Syrian immigrant, said it was one of the most terrifying experiences of her life.

The NYPD describes the suspect as an Asian woman last seen wearing a red and white checkered shirt and jeans.

The investigation is ongoing.
